What is Hoya?
Hoya Canada is one of Family Focus Eyecare’s go-to labs when it comes to ordering and manufacturing our patients’ lenses.
Founded in 1941 in Japan by brothers Shoichi and Shigeru Yamanaka, Hoya began as a small manufacturer of optical lenses. Soon after, Hoya entered the fields of healthcare and information technology. Today, Hoya produces spectacle lenses, intraocular lenses, and optical lenses. In addition, the company also produces medical endoscopes and key components of semi conductors, light crystal display (LCD) panels and hard disk drives (HDDs).
Hoya Vision Care Canada Celebrates 10 Years of Lens Manufacturing in Canada
Shelley, Sarah, and Dr. Devan Trischuk were recently invited to tour Hoya’s lab in Mississauga, ON in celebration of their tenth anniversary!
Touring Hoya Vision Care Canada’s lab provided our team with an unique opportunity to learn about optical production. Hoya’s use of state of the art technology and advanced manufacturing reduces aberrations that occur in lenses created with traditional lens manufacturing tools and processes.
With free-form lenses (also known as digital high-definition lenses), the making of the lenses from wearer’s eyeglass prescription is optimized with computer-controlled surfacing equipment which is much more precise than conventional tools. “High-definition” or “free-form lenses” may provide sharper image quality, better peripheral vision, and improved contrast sensitivity.
Hoya’s Super Hi Vision EX3 is a scratch resistant and durable anti-reflection coating that outperforms glass!
Our team was also invited to the Hoya Gala
Dr. Trischuk, Sarah, and Shelley also attended the Hoya Gala which celebrated 10 years of excellence in Canadian lens manufacturing.
